2011–Year of the Bobcat?

January 3, 2011

Out enjoying the almost-dry trails near Irvine Park on New Year’s Day afternoon–a bobcat surprise (and why I try to always carry my little camera):

Happy New Year, fellow wanderer! (And for more info on Orange County bobcats, see Dick Newell’s “Orange County Tracker” website.)

Truth-in-blogging disclaimer: Some spots on the trail were less than “almost-dry.”

Nothing like splurching through soft fresh mud . . . a free spa treatment to start the New Year.

Keep looking uptrail . . . you never know what you might find . . .

He’s a beauty, Thea! Don’t ya just love how wildlife doesn’t register in the brain for a few seconds because the eyes have never cast upon this before? Wonderful feeling!

Great photo, Thea. You must have been keeping quiet to catch that one.

Ha–thanks, Dawn. I wish I could attribute it to my stealthy barefootedness out on the trail… I think it’s more of a situation where the bobcat has become accustomed to humans wandering through his territory…
